The objective of the present work was to describe the experience lived by residents of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an experience report on the insertion of DVM residents in the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Family and Community Health (Programa de Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde da Família e Comunidade - PRMSFC) in Primary Care (PC) in the city of João Pessoa – Paraíba, Brazil, from March 2021 to February 2022. The first challenges encountered were activities focused on consultations, tests, and vaccinations, and the lack of information about the work of the DVM. The territories of the Family Health Units (FHU) included areas with deforestation, urbanization, lack of basic sanitation, accumulation of garbage, and presence of stray, farm, synanthropic and venomous animals. Multiple zoonosis were diagnosed at the FHU, including sporotrichosis, toxoplasmosis, and accidents with venomous animals. Health education actions in collaboration with other services were carried out. The main challenges that limited the insertion of the DVM in the FHU were absence of veterinarians in PC, difficulties with preceptors, and PC centered on outpatients. This work demonstrates that the presence of DMV in PC is essential for the diagnosis, notification, promotion, and prevention of diseases and disorders of the environment-animal-human interfaceDownloads
