Abstract

While the political dimension is important in the training of health professionals for the Brazilian Unified Health System as a public policy, the spaces of political and social organization of health residents are considered strategic for the training of these workers. This research had as objective to understand how insertion in the Pernambucano Collective of Health Residents affects the training and professional practice of graduates of residency programs in health. A qualitative research was carried out through semi-structured interviews with graduates who work in the Brazilian Unified Health System. The results point out, mainly, repercussions in the fields of political education, professional performance, social control policies and construction of the resident political identity. The research reaffirms the importance of involving residents in political organizations and advocates for the recognition and inclusion of political movements in the formal curriculum of residency programs. In that sense, the research reinforces the importance of inserting residents into political spaces, in defense of the recognition and inclusion of these spaces in the formal curriculum of residency programs.
