FUNCTIONALITY ASSESSMENT OF ELDERLY IN A FAMILY HEALTH UNIT USING WHODAS 2.0

Abstract

Objective: to verify the profile and functionality of the elderly using WHODAS 2.0 and to identify the association between the socioeconomic profile, health history, life habits, and social and family support to the functionality of the elderly assisted by a Family Health Unit in Vitória -ES. Methods: This is a cross-sectional quantitative study with 187 elderly people assisted by a Family Health Unit in Vitória - ES. Functionality was assessed through WHODAS, classifying it as none, mild, moderate, severe and extreme. Information was collected regarding socioeconomic profile, family arrangement, health conditions and life habits. The Chi-square test was carried out, with functionality being the dependent variable.Results: It was found that the average age was 70 years and most of the elderly are women, brown, married, primary education, individual income up to 1 minimum wage, multigenerational households, have a caregiver, non-smokers, non-alcoholics, do not practice physical activity, self-rated their health as excellent/good. Regarding functionality, 21% presented alterations, of which mild (63%), moderate (27%) and severe (10%). The following were statistically significant: going out alone (p=0.000), having a caregiver (p=0.000), history of falls (p=0.013), hospitalizations (p=0.002), physical activity (p=0.004), self-assessment of health (p=0.000) and number of daily medications (p=0.009). Conclusions: It is concluded that the functionality proved to be mostly unchanged and to better serve this population that presents changes, the health team must be trained, as well as promoting better guidance to the caregiver.
