Abstract

Traumatic stress (Routledge, 2025), by Resick and LoSavio, compiles critical updates on the nosology and therapeutics of stressor-related disorders. The text examines the diagnostic evolution across nosographic manuals, elucidating the phenotypic complexity of post-traumatic stress disorder. Its neurobiological substrates are studied, including dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and alterations in neural networks, as well as epidemiological risk determinants. The analysis emphasizes the superiority of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies over pharmacotherapy, addressing challenges in the implementation of evidence-based protocols within health systems. This review concludes in favor of the need to integrate public health perspectives and network approaches to mitigate the functional impact of trauma-associated comorbidities, overcoming the unidirectionality of the biomedical model.
