ESTIGMA SOCIAL DE PERSONAS QUE VIVEN CON VIH Y LA SALUD BUCAL: UNA REVISIÓN DE ALCANCE

Introducción: La infección por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) persiste en un contexto con repercusiones sociales y psicológicas, incluyendo el estigma, asociado a otras problemáticas como la discriminación. Objetivo: Esta revisión de alcance tiene como objetivo explorar la literatura científica relacionada con las conexiones entre el estigma social que enfrentan las personas que viven con VIH y su salud bucal. Metodología: La revisión se basó en el protocolo para revisiones de alcance del Joanna Briggs Institute. Se seleccionaron las bases de datos Embase, PubMed, SCOPUS y Web of Science para la identificación de artículos relevantes. Los estudios fueron seleccionados según estrategias preestablecidas y se realizó una síntesis narrativa de los datos. Resultados: Se identificaron 274 registros, de los cuales 265 fueron eliminados por ser duplicados y/o no abordar la cuestión del estudio. Se incluyeron nueve artículos, y los análisis revelaron cuestiones relacionadas con el estigma en la atención sanitaria de las personas que viven con VIH. Discusión: El estigma en la relación de atención sanitaria se identificó desde situaciones clínicas evidentes de discriminación hasta vacíos existentes en los planes de estudio académicos sobre el tema. El impacto de las enfermedades orales es mayor en la población objetivo que en la población general. El déficit de conocimiento sobre el tema entre estudiantes y profesionales de la salud bucal se configura como un problema considerable en el mantenimiento de prácticas estigmatizantes. Consideraciones finales: Los efectos del estigma social resultan en una búsqueda tardía de los servicios odontológicos, lo que empeora la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud bucal de estas personas, dentro de una lógica de jerarquías sociales y procesos de exclusión.
