Abstract

Objective: The work aims to understand the perspective and challenges of physical therapists about mental health in the context of their performance in primary care. Methods: This is a qualitative research with seven physiotherapists who are part of a Multiprofessional Residency Program. Data collection took place through the focus group and the culture circle. The material produced by the statements and records were evaluated according to thematic content analysis. Results: Three central themes were identified: Mental health and physiotherapy: concepts and meanings; The physiotherapist in daily mental health in primary care; and, Mental health practices and training. Conclusions: The experience of working in primary care has enabled physiotherapists to raise awareness of mental health as a field of possibilities for professional practice, through individual and/or group consultations, or even in the conduction of integrative body activities. It is recognized the need for greater investments and initiatives in the health training process aimed at psychosocial care in the territory.
