Abstract

To develop the potential of Multiprofessional Health Residency Programs residents, it is essential to establish assessment instruments of a summative and formative nature that can guide educational actions. The lag in the pedagogical preparation of preceptors means that formative assessments are less widespread and applied, which corroborates the need for debate on this topic. Therefore, the objective of this study is to report the experience of physiotherapist preceptors in evaluating residents at the Gaffrée e Guinle University Hospital, in Rio de Janeiro. Initially, a single summative assessment was administered to residents at the end of each month. Over the years, the physiotherapists to the permanent staff increased and improvements began to emerge in the academic support for residents, such as the creation of theoretical-practical modules of physiotherapy classes, thus increasing the number of assessments, both summative and formative. Furthermore, the completion of the preceptorship course by some physiotherapists enabled more assessment measures to be implemented in the nursing sector, where they work. It is possible to achieve the professional skills necessary for resident training. In view of the above, the importance of restructuring the pedagogical models developed in Multiprofessional Health Residency Programs is observed, in which the educational demands of preceptors can be met. The teaching model with a formative and personalized focus on the resident's needs, combined with traditional summative assessment practices, can contribute to more satisfactory and effective learning outcomes.
