Abstract

The Traumatology-Orthopedic Physical Therapy specialty was established in 2004, in accordance with COFFITO Resolution Nº 260, dated February 11. After two decades of existence, it represents a significant number of professionals across all regions of Brazil.

Many collective actions were taken to strengthen Traumatology-Orthopedic Physical Therapy in the period leading up to the creation of ABRAFITO. Following the emergence of the specialty, movements and scientific activities were organized in the southern region of Brazil, including the establishment of the Southern Brazilian Society of Traumatology-Orthopedic Physical Therapy (SULBRAFITO). However, the lack of a national organization in the area of Traumatology-Orthopedics focused on the interests of technical, scientific, and cultural development limited the actions of the professional class.

In August 2013, ABRAFITO was created, and its first National Board was elected by acclamation at a General Assembly. Since then, the activities of the entity have been strengthened by an increasing number of members from different regions of the country and through actions such as the creation of state boards, special groups, and committees, as well as the organization of events and the production of technical-scientific materials, along with continuing education. The association has also established partnerships with national and international institutions, enhancing the advancement of the specialty and its internationalization
