Abstract

Introduction: Myelomeningocele (MMC) is the most severe form of open spina bifida. This condition leads to multiple nerve impairments, motor and sensory alterations, and dysfunctions in vital organs. In this context, Early Intervention (EI) is an essential strategy to mitigate damage and improve the quality of life for affected children. Objective: To develop an informational booklet on EI in MMC, with an emphasis on physiotherapeutic guidelines.  Methodology: This is a descriptive study, with the following steps: i) conducting a bibliographic review in referenced databases; ii) discussions among researchers on the main findings; iii) creating the booklet, including information about MMC, levels and associated comorbidities, the definition and roles of EI, and relevant guidelines; iv) content review; v) finalizing the booklet.  Results: A booklet was created for caregivers and the general population, aiming to educate families about fundamental concepts, complications, and comorbidities of MMC. The material provides guidance on exercises and home-based instructions tailored to functional levels and age (up to 3 years old). Conclusion: The developed booklet represents an important health education tool to support EI in children with MMC, aligning home-based physiotherapeutic guidelines with a Family-Centered Practice model. Although not implemented in this study phase, its potential to promote child development and empower caregivers highlights its clinical relevance and future applicability.
