Abstract

Objective: To present impressions about psychic suffering in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the Family and Community Medicine Residency. Experience: In Primary Health Care, people with their various health problems are heard and assisted, including mental health. Thus, during the Family and Community Medicine Residency, in a family health unit in João Pessoa-PB, there were demands related to psychic suffering, resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the high infectivity, morbidity and mortality of COVID-19, there were changes in the unit's work process and in the routine of care. It was also observed the occurrence of the worsening of the mental health status of the patients and professionals of the unit. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has upended the world and its way of life, it would not be different with the Residency in Family and Community Medicine and Primary Health Care. This also felt changes in the field of mental health, in which psychic suffering was generated or aggravated in users and health professionals.
