Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: Aging promotes physiological changes that can cause falls among the elderly. The prevention of falls is important for the health of the elderly, as they can cause various complications. Therefore, preventive strategies, such as health education group, can be useful to avoid health problems. Objetive: To understand the repercussions of the group of threats and safe houses in the daily lives of the elderly through their perceptions, and their understanding of the health education activities practiced throughout the group. Method: The fall prevention group took place weekly for three months with the participation of 10 elderly people, who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and were evaluated using standardized tests. In the end, a focus group was held and the participants' narratives were categorized through content analysis. Results: The speeches were constituted in two significant categories for the elderly: The importance of health education and coexistence as a device for a health education group. The group proved to be potent for health education. Conclusion: The group was an important strategy for the prevention of falls and for the interaction of the elderly. It is hoped that the results can stimulate the production of more preventive actions for the health of the elderly.
