Abstract

Functionality is conceptualized as the complex and positive relationship between an individual's health status and the contextual factors that permeate it. Therefore, the assessment of people with different health conditions should consider contextual factors, in addition to body structures and functions and/or activity limitations and social participation, thus enabling a holistic approach to the person as advocated by the biopsychosocial model.

Thus, the objective is to report the experience of the process of identifying and standardizing contextual factors in priority areas of public health. This is a report from participants of the extension project "Promotion of Functionality through Physiotherapeutic Strategies in Biopsychosocially Vulnerable Populations (FUNCIONA)" at XXXXX, with activities from March 2024 to December 2026.

FUNCIONA integrates five extension projects that provide physiotherapeutic assistance to populations in social vulnerability across different life cycles. The project began with training sessions for undergraduate and graduate students conducted online via the Google Meet platform to align concepts of the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). Subsequently, the variables related to contextual factors used in the projects were compiled and subdivided into sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle characteristics, resulting in a structured questionnaire for collecting data on contextual factors across the different extension projects.

This initial phase aims to foster the integration of physiotherapy services, with the expectation of generating positive impacts on patients' functionality and quality of life, aligning with evidence from the literature.
