MAPPING OF NEUROSENSORIOMOTOR INTERVENTIONS USED IN PHYSIOTHERAPY IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT: A SCOPE REVIEW

Aims: This study aims to map the neurosensorimotor interventions used in physiotherapy for children and adolescents with visual impairment. Methods: The present study is a scope review, the electronic searches were conducted in the following databases; Lilacs, PubMed/Medline, Embase, PEDro, Web Of Science, Scopus, Scielo, Science Direct and Cochrane, the Keywords were; Physical Therapy Modalities, Child, Adolescent, Vision Disorders, low Vision. Results: Five studies were identified with emphasis on the following physiotherapeutic treatments: balance training, proprioception, gross and fine motor coordination, strengthening, visual-motor control, visual perception, climbing and descending stairs and ramps, jumping rope and gait training, all were associated with recreational activities. All five studies analyzed showed improvement in participants' performance when comparing pre- and post-intervention, thus managing to respond to the proposed objectives, emphasizing the importance of stimulating this public. Along with this, they also reported the lack of research in this area. Conclusion: In conclusion, the kinesiotherapeutic exercise protocols associated with functional and recreational activities contributed to motor development and improved daily living activities of visually impaired children and adolescents.
