Abstract

ABSTRACT: Objective: To describe the relationship between the main eating disorders and their occurrence in the elderly, showing the impacts that these disorders can cause in the elderly, as well as reporting the main challenges and difficulties regarding diagnosis and treatment in clinical practice. Methods: This is a narrative review, carried out from July 2020 to October 2021, using scientific databases such as: Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Scielo and Lilacs. Results: It was possible to verify that studies involving eating disorders in the elderly are still minimal, deserving greater attention to anemia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. Conclusion: There is a need for further studies involving the occurrence of eating disorders in the elderly population. Due to the paucity of research in this area, it has become difficult to offer effective treatment approaches for the development and diagnosis of eating disorders in this life cycle.
